Mieko K. Miyao is a freelance artist based in San Diego, CA. She primarily focuses on watercolor and acrylic painting.

Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, she moved to the United States in her 20’s to explore new opportunities and raise two daughters. She graduated from Northern Illinois University and earned a BA in psychology while her children were attending high school.

They lived in Dallas, TX, and the Chicago suburbs before finally retiring in Southern California with her husband.

Mieko’s artistry is inspired by nature. She uses layers of colors in watercolor and/or acrylic mediums. Her spontaneous creativity is reflected in many areas of her work.

Her abstract paintings have no limits to express moods, emotions, and freedom.

Always learning, she explores new techniques by attending various workshops and formal training through institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago. Mieko is a current member of the San Diego Watercolor Society.
